TikkunTrek 07

For the 24 hours prior to Limmudfest, over 60 people took on the TikkunTrek challenge - hiking and cycling in the region of the Peak District National Park surrounding the Limmudfest venue, to a beautiful campsite near Bakewell for a night under the stars.

In doing so they raised funds and awareness of the Tzedek-sponsored projects:Nav Bharata Jagriti Kendra in India creating sustainable livelihoods for the tribal poor women and the Eubkya Women's project in Uganda creating self-help groups to help pool resources for development purposes, along with the Partners in Creation projects; The Big Green Jewish Website and Greening the Jewish Community, aimed at promoting environmental ideas in the Jewish community and initiating an environmentally sustainable programme across communal organisations.

Inspired by beautiful natural surroundings, guided by experienced educators, TikkunTrek participants enjoyed a physical and educational journey, exploring themselves, their community and how they respond to the challenges of sustainable development. Tikkun Trek culminated in the building of giant totem that represented the experiences of the participants and what they learnt and was erected on the Promised Land Field for all the community to see and enjoy.
