Limmudfest08 will take place over the August bank holiday weekend and is a unique opportunity to engage with all things Jewish - from studying to schmoozing, from dancing to the latest Jewish beats to practicing Yoga based on Jewish texts, to chevruta (one to one learning). Limmudfest is truly a magical recipe of art, tradition, religion, spirituality and Jewish life, sprinkled with creativity and served to around 550 participants from all
backgrounds, religious affiliations and age groups within the stunning scenery of the Peak District.
We offer programmes and facilities for individuals, groups and families with special programmes for kids, a crèche and babysitting all provided. Most participants camp, although some bedrooms are available too.
Whatever your age, approach to Judaism or areas of interest, we aim to offer an experience you will learn from and enjoy. We programme courses and sessions throughout the day and into the evening, with entertainment, including music, comedy, film and theatre. You can also take advantage of the extensive grounds - whether that means
engaging in a game of rounders, finding a quiet area to discuss Torah or having a conversation with the cows in the next field. Failing that, you can just sit back and enjoy the stunning views that you get from being in the heart of the Peak District National Park.
Our theme for this year is Ve'ahavta l'reyacha kamocha (Leviticus 19:18 - Love your neighbour as yourself). Some of our sessions will explore and reflect on this topic in a range of different and creative ways, others will focus on totally different issues.
"Is this really possible? Who is a neighbour? Do we love ourselves? How far does this responsibility extend?"
We will be asking ourselves and others these questions and many more besides. Bring your thoughts, bring your friendship. Bring your love and come ready to explore what this call to ‘love others as we love ourselves' means to us today as individuals and as the Limmudfest community.
