Purpose and vision
The Trustee Board is the governing body of Limmud in the UK. It is responsible for the governance, stewardship and long-term strategy of the organisation, and has ultimate decision-making authority. The Trustee Board constitutes the formal legal entity of the organisation.
As described in the structural review, going forward the Executive Committee and Trustee Board will be dedicated to supporting Limmud initiatives in the UK. Global participants will always be welcome and encouraged to attend and volunteer at Limmud events in the UK.
The Trustee Board is responsible for fundraising, approval of the annual budget as presented by the Executive Committee, managing organisational risks including HR and legal issues, and ensuring the organisation is fulfilling its aims and objectives in a sustainable manner.
The Trustee Board will act as a ‘Critical Friend’ to the Executive, who are responsible for the planning and executing of Limmud events in the UK, and the recruitment, training and support of our volunteers. The Executive and Trustee Board will work together with a culture of collaboration, engagement, mentoring and support.
Ultimately the Trustee Board’s priorities are ensuring the long-term financial, fiduciary and reputational stability and sustainability of the organisation. This in turn enables the hundreds of Limmud volunteers in the UK to focus on what is important – creating, developing and experiencing amazing Limmud events, which takes everyone one step further on their Jewish journey. This includes the Executive Committee’s priorities of:
- Transparency & Flexibility – Ensure Limmud’s structure is clear and provide flexible pathways to get involved at all levels of the organisation
- Volunteer Recruitment, Support & Development – Empower volunteers by providing high quality mentoring, training and development opportunities; Provide a nurturing environment by enhancing welfare support and celebrating our shared successes
- Participation & Accessibility – Grow the number of people attending UK Limmud events; Make UK Limmud events accessible to all – financially, physically and ideologically; Develop new ways for people to engage with Limmud, including new and exciting partnerships with other communal organisations
- Innovation, Technology & Sustainability – Learn from our experiences of online events during 2020 so Limmud continues to be at the forefront of creative and innovative Jewish education and community building; Ensure Limmud in the UK makes the best use of technology, processes and insights so we can make informed decisions and demonstrate Limmud’s impact; Help all UK events minimise their environmental impact
